Background:
Currently, the rail industry is facing a significant shortage of
skilled workers. In response to this crisis, there have been a
number of studies conducted into the potential labour market supply
for the rail industry. Whilst various issues surrounding the
shortage of skilled workers have been explored, there is a need to
identify other key areas that have not yet been investigated.
Objective:
This preliminary research aims to identify important
considerations that have not yet been addressed in regard to labour
supply target groups with a view to submitting a full research
proposal in the near future. Potential areas identified include the
belief systems of target labour market groups and how corporate
reputation influences decisions to apply for positions within
Rail.
Project
scope:
Review of existing research within Rail and similar industry
organisations into potential labour market supply groups for the
rail industry.
Benefits
The project aims to bring together existing research into one
report so that rail organisations have a better understanding of
the research conducted to date into potential labour market groups
and how further research may contribute to this understanding.
Expected outcomes:
A preliminary literature review on existing research into labour
supply target groups within the rail industry.
Project timeframe:
3 months
