Background
The Australian Government is progressing the potential implementation of a Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS). The Australian rail industry, therefore, needed to understand the consequences of the CPRS and the implications of the industry response.
Objective
The objective of this project is to ensure that the rail industry, as a sector, develops sufficient foresight with regard to political, scientific and policy trends relating to carbon trading at both a national and international level. The project will also inform rail organisations on how they can better align their organisational capabilities with an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) in order to maintain or increase their competitiveness. This project will complete macro-economic modelling based on the transport task and emission factor models developed in project R1.103 and report on the policy implications of the findings.
Outcomes
A report on policy implications of findings will be developed for industry use.
Benefits
The rail industry will be able to use the results of this project in order to make more informed decisions regarding emissions trading.
