This project aims to fully map Australasian rail industry jobs, related competencies and training requirements and the appropriate vertical and lateral career paths between jobs in all sectors of rail in order to develop a user-friendly, online and paper based Career Pathways Guide to assist with career planning and training needs identification.
The Career Pathways Guide for the Australasian Rail Industry will map comprehensively and cross-nationally career paths in rail and will provide rail employees with a transparent guide to jobs in rail and their possible career paths that are linked to competencies and learning and development. The Guide will be developed from material already gathered through the Career Pathways for Rail Scoping Study and from further research that is part of the full project relating to ‘invisible’, undocumented or unarticulated career paths. If made public, the Guide will also provide potential employees or other stakeholders with a comprehensive preview of the range of jobs in rail and the potential for career advancement thus enhancing the image and attractiveness of rail as an employer.
