The need for this scoping study emerged from industry polls conducted by CRC for Rail Innovations. This revealed a critical shortage of engineers with the specific domain knowledge required to practice as traction engineers as designers, maintainers and assurers of traction infrastructure on electrified rail networks. The aim of the study is to evaluate and fully define the education and training needs of the rail industry, in relation to electrical traction engineering and to advise on possible education programs that could be developed to satisfy the requirement.
