Background
A goal of the "Future Rail People Capability Operational Plan 2008/2009" is to increase the quality of people management across the rail industry.
Objective
This scoping project investigated the issues and problems with leadership and management in the industry, and documented what is currently being done to develop these capabilies within the CRC Core Participant organisations. It feeds into project P4.104 (Appraising the Design, Deployment and Evaluation of Leadership and Management Development in the Rail Industry to Develop a Common Framework for Building Future Capability and Competence).
Outcomes
Through interviews with selected staff in the CRC’s Participant organisations, and a review of national and international literature, the project scoped existing practices in developing and sustaining leadership and management capability in the rail industry. It provided a base upon which a comprehensive capability framework for leadership and management can be developed across the industry.
Benefits
The project will contribute, ultimately, to the building of management and leadership capability at various levels in the rail industry.
