Background

There is currently diversity of approach across Australia to driver performance monitoring and feedback and limited dissemination of best practice. As a results there are a number of inefficiencies, such as operators find themselves training and retraining drivers after every track incident with consequent costs and inefficiencies. This project identified current practice in driver performance monitoring and what is needed to meet the needs of the industry into the future.

Objective

The scoping project identified relevant stakeholders and their expertise and led to the development of projects P4.103 (Evaluation of Simulators in Train Driver Training) and P4.106 (Developing a National Competence Assurance Framework for Train Drivers).

Outcomes

A survey and summary of existing driver performance monitoring and feedback systems in all jurisdictions and a preliminary needs assessment report on the major problems identified by stakeholders.

Benefits

The project facilitated the development of a national driver performance monitoring and feedback system by identifying major stakeholders, their current practices and their perspective on those practices.
