Background:
There is a strong need within the rail industry to improve the
relevance and national consistency of training and education. At
present, training courses in compliance, safety and common
technical areas are varied. These variations reduce the portability
of training in and raise costs to the industry.
Objectives:
The project aims to map existing courses used to develop staff
for compliance, safety and common technical areas. It will provide
baseline data that will help identify areas most amenable to a
national approach to course development and delivery, as well as
the most effective ways to evaluate existing courses to meet
industry’s needs.
Project
scope:
In this preliminary stage, the project will use a Delphi survey
and interviews to identify existing courses and develop a scoping
summary of these courses.
Benefits:
The findings of this project will be used to inform evaluations
in the project’s second stage. They will also provide
research evidence that can be used to inform deliberations with
education and training organisations that provide services to rail
industry, as well as inform subsequent projects in the Education
and Training Program.
Expected outcomes:
A scoping summary of existing courses used to develop staff for
compliance, safety and common technical areas in the rail industry,
including data on priority courses to be
evaluated. A proposal for the second stage of this
project.
Project timeframe:
12 months
