The Program is linked to the key
objectives highlighted in the strategic plan of the ARA’s
Rail Skills and Careers Council (RSCC).The Program’s
12 projects have been designed to contribute to the RSCC focus on
improving the
relevance and
national consistency
of education and training across the rail industry.
The projects are focusing on:
evaluation of training courses, updating and/or developing new course content
and materials, establishing national competencies in driver
training, track certification and leadership/management,
developing a framework for national competence assurance,
establishing a driver performance monitoring and feedback system,
national standardisation of licensing requirements, and developing
coordinated learning pathways in the industry.
The benefits to the industry
will be:
- improved
industry efficiency (e.g. standardising competency assessment
practices, developing programs to meet specific industry
requirements for the future)
- reduced
cost of new starts (e.g. reviewing adequacy of existing rail
courses, and outputs of RTOs and tertiary institutions;
establishing national competencies)
- enhanced
professional image (e.g. incorporating rail training courses in
AQTF where practicable; promoting coordinated learning
pathways)
- increased
attraction/retention (e.g. flexible and defined learning pathways;
innovative, industry-wide learning culture)
- enhanced
capability for the future (e.g. research postgraduates; learning
and assessment ‘champions’ in the workplace; an
‘efficient rail’ coursework masters degree)
