Objective:
A goal of the ‘Future
Rail People Capability Operational Plan 2008/2009’, part of
the Australasian Railway Association Strategic Plan 2008 to 2017,
is to increase the quality of people management across the rail
industry.
This scoping project,
intended as the first phase of a larger project, is therefore to
investigate what exactly are perceived to be the issues and
problems with leadership and management in the industry, and to
document what is currently being done to develop capability in
these areas within the CRC Core Participant
organisations.
Project
scope:
This project forms part of the CRC’s
activities in the area of reviewing the quality of education and
training provided to employees in a number of areas critical to the
overall performance of the industry. In particular, it will provide
the information necessary to scope the main project that will
contribute to the development of national capability in leadership
and management in the rail industry.
Benefits:
The
output will contribute, ultimately, to the building of management
and leadership capability at various levels in the rail
industry.
Expected
outcomes:
- Report
comprising:
(a) a summary
of existing practices used by Core Participant organisations in
developing and maintaining leadership and management capability;
and
(b) a preliminary needs assessment on the major
issues and problems as identified by these
organisations
- Proposal for the main
project
- Stakeholder agreement from other industry organisations
to be involved in the main project
Project
timeframe:
